Who is Peter Bowles?
Bowles, born to father, Herbert Reginald Bowles, who was a chauffeur and a valet Drogo Montagu, child of the Earl of Sandwich who also worked as manservant to the daughter of Lord Beaverbrook, and Sarah Jane (née Harrison), from Scotland, worked as a nanny to the Duke of Argyll’s family before coming to England and working for Beaverbrook’s family.
Peter Bowles’ career
Bowles started his professional career with the Old Vic Company in 1956, when he appeared in minor roles in Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, Troilus and Cressida, and Richard II. After a season, this group toured North America, culminating with a sell-out season at Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre. He appeared in a number of productions at the Bristol Old Vic.
