Kyle Grant Isbel is an American professional baseball center fielder for the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball.
After his junior year, he committed to play college baseball at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV). After being undrafted in the 2015 Major League Baseball draft, he enrolled at UNLV.
Isbel signed with the Royals and made his professional debut with the Idaho Falls Chukars before being promoted to the Lexington Legends. Between the two clubs, Isbel hit.326 with seven home runs, 32 RBIs, and 24 stolen bases in 64 games.
With the Wilmington Blue Rocks, he began the 2019 season. He was placed on the injured list in April and then activated in July. He played in seven rehab games before being sent to Wilmington.
In 52 games with the Blue Rocks, Isbel hit.216 with five home runs and 23 RBIs. After the season, he joined the Surprise Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League, where he earned All-Star honors.
He did not play in a minor league game in 2020 since the season had been postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
On March 31, 2021, Mike Matheny, the Royals’ manager, announced that Isbel had made the Opening Day roster and would start in right field.
On April 1, he was added to the 40-man roster. Isbel made his Major League Baseball debut on the same day, hitting an RBI single against Texas Rangers pitcher Kyle Gibson. In the game, he went three for five with two RBIs.
