Daniel Meirion Walker is a journalist, newsreader, and television presenter from the United Kingdom. From 2009 until 2021, he hosted Football Focus, and since 2016, he has hosted BBC Breakfast.
He also hosts programs on BBC Radio 5 Live and has hosted Sportsday on BBC News Channel and BBC World News, as well as reporting for Final Score and Match of the Day on a regular basis.
Walker was born in Crawley, Sussex, to a Welsh mother and a local clergyman.
He attended Ifield Primary School, Three Bridges Middle School, and Hazelwick Secondary School in Crawley until he was 18. At the University of Sheffield, he received a BA (Hons) in History in 1998 and an MA in Journalism Studies in 1999.
Sarah, Walker’s wife, is his best friend. The pair met while attending Sheffield University and had three children together. He is a devout Christian who has refused to work on Sundays for the entirety of his professional life.
Walker’s spiritual upbringing was predominantly Evangelical Christian, and his increased prominence on the BBC drew media attention to fringe Christian organizations and implied that he maintained ‘loopy’ ideas.
Walker then explained through a spokeswoman that he was merely a Christian who thinks that God is the one who created everything.
