Dominic Smith is an American professional baseball first baseman and left fielder for the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB).
He was selected by the Mets with the 11th overall pick of the 2013 MLB draft out of Junípero Serra High School in Gardena, California.
Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities and the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy were two programs Smith participated in as a youngster in his hometown.
He played first base, outfield, and pitcher for the school’s baseball team while attending Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, California.
The 2013 season saw him lead the Cavaliers to the CIF Southern Section Division Championship. Smith has made plans to attend the University of Southern California (USC) in the fall (USC).
The New York Mets drafted Smith in the first round of the 2013 MLB draft with the eleventh overall pick. Instead of attending USC, he accepted a $2.6 million contract with the Mets.
Smith was sent to the Gulf Coast Mets of the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League (GCL), where he slugged.220 with seven home runs. In 48 games, he had a batting average of 287 with three home runs and 22 RBIs.
