Luis Enrique Cessa was born on April 25, 1992, he is a Mexican Major League Baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Cincinnati Reds (MLB). He formerly played in Major League Baseball with the New York Yankees.
Cessa signed with the New York Mets as an international free agent on July 9, 2008. In 2009, he hit 191/.379/.258. in 34 games with the Dominican Summer League Mets. With one home run and nine RBI.
Cessa rejoined the team the following season, hitting.162/.230/.191 in 23 games with three RBI and no home runs. Cessa played shortstop during his first two seasons before switching to throwing in 2011.
Cessa and Michael Fulmer were traded to the Detroit Tigers on July 31, 2015, in exchange for Yoenis Céspedes. Cessa ended the season with the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens, where he went 1-3 with a 5.97 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 37.2 innings of work. Cessa was later promoted to the Tigers’ 40-man roster.
