The MLB season hasn’t really begun yet, but the good news for Mexico’s baseball fans is that Sonoran Daniel Duarte has been added to the roster of the Cincinnati Reds and will make his Major League Baseball debut on April 1st, 2022.
In an interview with the Cincinnati Enquirer, manager David Bell reassured the Mexican that he will be on the Opening Day roster, so he can begin crafting his own tale.
On June 28, 2021, the Reds welcomed Alejo López from Mexico City to the Major Leagues, where he played at various spots in the infield and outfield during his maiden appearances.
Luis Cessa, a fellow Mexican who has been with the squad for two seasons, will be able to share the dressing room with Duarte.
Since the previous season, Duarte has been invited to Spring Training and eventually called up to the major league team after a stellar performance in international competitions.
As a member of the Acereros de Monclova of the Mexican Baseball League, he spent the summer throwing for the team and only allowed one run in 14 innings of work.
The right-hander was also a member of the Mexican National Team that competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, despite the team’s disappointing performance.
His participation in the LIDOM in the Dominican Republic with the Eastern Stars club, which only allowed two runs in nine games of the postseason, was called for the second time in the winter, and the Caneros de Los Mochis concluded with a 1.04 ERA.
It was simply a warm-up for his second appearance in the Caribbean Seriesa event, where he failed to score in three of his three contests.
As of the end of June 2021, the Reds have signed Mexican outfielder Duarte. After a difficult journey to the MLB, Duarte now has a new goal: to remain in the big show.
