George Runie “Buck” Farmer is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Cincinnati Reds. He formerly played for the Detroit Tigers in Major League Baseball.
Farmer was a four-year letter winner and three-year captain at Rockdale County High School.
He had a 1.50 earned run average (ERA) with a .443 hitting average during his junior year, and a 2.02 ERA with a .468 batting average during his senior year.
With 22 strikeouts against Dacula High School in 2008, Farmer holds the Rockdale single-game strikeout record.
He was selected MVP of both the Connie Mack World Series and the World Wood Bat Championships in 2008.
Farmer was picked in the 46th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft by the Atlanta Braves, but he declined to sign and chose to play college baseball for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
In 2010, Farmer enrolled at Georgia Tech to begin his college career. He went 5–1 with a 3.63 ERA in 19 games during his freshman season.
In four innings of relief against Wake Forest on March 14, he earned his first career win, allowing no runs on two hits.
Farmer went 11–3 with a 2.82 ERA in 16 starts during his sophomore year. In conference games, he was 8–1. In 2011, no pitcher in the league had more than eight conference victories.
He played collegiate summer baseball with the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Chatham Anglers after the 2011 season.
