Does Pujols Daughter Have Down Syndrome?
Pujols Daughter Isabella was born with Down Syndrome.
When Albert Pujols met Deidre, he was an 18-year-old community college shortstop. On their first date, Deidre revealed to Albert that she was the mother of a baby girl named Isabella, who was born with Down syndrome.
When Pujols got married two years later, he became a father. Their foundation for children with Down syndrome and their families was established five years later.
The Roberto Clemente Award for community service was presented to him in 2008.
Even though Pujols signed with the Angels prior to the 2012 season, he expanded the foundation’s operations to include Orange County, where he, Deidre, and their five children now call home.
The foundation’s headquarters remain in St. Louis, where Pujols spent his first 11 years of professional baseball.
When it came to fundraising for children with Down syndrome, they held culinary classes and golf tournaments and frequently included other celebrities, such as MLB player Mike Trout.
Those with Down syndrome were invited to proms. Several young individuals with Down syndrome were hired as greeters at arena team stores because of their help with this.
Attend games at Angel Stadium with them and their loved ones. In spite of the epidemic spreading across the country, they switched the events to Zoom so that children could stay involved.
People with Down syndrome and their families first met Pujols at Angel Stadium when he welcomed them in a suite on the first baseline.
Before the game, the youngsters asked Pujols if he would hit a home run for them. Kellie Perez-Tuchowski, whose 28-year-old daughter, Alex, has Down syndrome, says, “Albert stepped up to the plate and hammered it!” As he made his way around the bases, he pointed to the suite.
It was a night of fireworks when he got them back. The foundation’s employees recognized that the kids couldn’t see the exhibit because of an overhang as soon as it started.
To Pujols’s suite, where he and his family were sitting, they rushed them down the hall. Pujols accompanied them on stage. It was “like entering into the gates of Heaven” for Jeremy, a die-hard Angels fan.
