Jonathan Joseph India is a Major League Baseball infielder with the Cincinnati Reds in the United States. India was a standout pitcher for American Heritage School’s baseball team.
India was awarded an All-American and the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year in 2018 while playing for the Florida Gators.
In the 2018 MLB draft, the Reds picked him with the fifth overall pick. In 2021, India made it to the top leagues, winning the National League Rookie of the Year award.
India went to Delray Beach, Florida’s American Heritage School.
He was picked in the 26th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers, but he did not sign and instead attended the University of Florida, where he played collegiate baseball for the Florida Gators.
India had a .303 batting average, .367 on-base percentage (OBP), and .440 SLG as a freshman at the University of Florida in 2016, with four home runs and 40 runs batted in (RBI).
Louisville Slugger named him a freshman All-American and the Southeastern Conference (SEC) First Team All-Freshman Team.
India played collegiate summer baseball with the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League after his freshman season at Florida, going 18-for-62 (.290) with seven doubles and four RBIs.
He hit .274/.354/.429 as a sophomore in 2017, with six home runs and 34 RBI, and was a member of Florida’s College World Series-winning squad.
Due to an arm injury, he missed the first few weeks of the season. After the season, India returned to the Mariners of the Cape Cod League.
India batted .350/.497/.717 as a junior in 2018, ranking sixth in the country with 21 home runs. India was named the SEC Baseball Player of the Year, which is given to the best player in the conference.
