Injury has caused Pham’s professional baseball career to take a number of detours. In 2010, he sustained a broken wrist.
He tore a ligament while attempting to stop a home run ball in a game in 2011. He appeared in 40 games and batted .294 in them.
Pham felt a pop in his shoulder while diving for a baseball in early 2012. The team doctors were of the opinion that it was not a dangerous situation.
He continued to play, but his condition worsened, and a later examination revealed a torn labrum, which forced him to miss practically the whole season.
In 2013, he tore his other labrum after being promoted to the AAA Memphis Redbirds of the Pacific Coast League (PCL).
After his recuperation, he returned to Springfield and batted. In 45 games, he scored 301 points.
Pham spent most of the 2014 season with the Memphis Tigers, participating in 104 games and batting .324 batting average, .395 on-base percentage (OBP), .491 slugging percentage (SLG), 63 runs scored, 16 doubles, six triples, ten home runs (HR), and 44 runs batted in (RBI).
On September 7, 2014, Pham was called up to the major leagues for the first time by the Cardinals.
Pham started the following season with Memphis but was forced to sit out the first two months due to a quadriceps injury. Pham had a career-high five RBI and two home runs against the Iowa Cubs on June 9.
He batted .338 in his first 24 games after coming from the disabled list, with a.402 on-base percentage, .625 on-base percentage, five home runs, and 21 RBI.
On July 3, 2015, the Cardinals recalled him to the major league club, and the next day, he played a key role in a 2–1 victory over the San Diego Padres.
