Samuel Timothy Coonrod professionally called Sam Coonrod is one of the professional baseball pitchers with the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team. He had his amateur high school baseball career at Carrollton High School.
After high school, he played college baseball with the Southern Illinois Salukis of the Missouri Valley Conference. While in college, he played collegiate summer baseball in 2012 for the Quincy Gems and the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in 2013. After college, the San Francisco Giants drafted him in the fifth round of the 2014 MLB Draft.
He was assigned to play for the Rookie Arizona League Giants that season to start his professional career. During the 2015 season, he played for the Single-A Augusta GreenJackets of the South Atlantic League where he earned his first win. In July 2015, he was named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week after a win against the Hickory Crawdads.
The Giants promoted him to the major leagues on May 26, 2019, and he made his MLB debut the same day. The Giants traded him to the Philadelphia Phillies in January 2021 and he has been with them till now.
