Nia Talita Long (born October 30, 1970) is an American actress who is 51 years old. She has won three NAACP Image Awards and a Black Reel Award, among other honors.
Long is most recognized for her appearances in Boyz n the Hood (1991), Love Jones, Soul Food (both 1997), The Best Man (1999) and its sequel The Best Man Holiday (2013), Big Momma’s House (2000), and Big Momma’s House 2 (2000).
She played Beulah “Lisa” Wilkes on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1991–1995) and Sasha Monroe on the criminal thriller series Third Watch (2003–2005) on television.
She reprised her role from the original 1999 film in the 2013 film The Best Man Holiday. Her character, unlike in the original film, is in an interracial relationship with a white guy.
In the film, Long is found to be seeking an interracial relationship, as he explains: “We live in a contemporary society where it occurs, it’s OK, and it’s not a slight on any black guy.
I like black guys, but the fact is that sistahs marry white men and brothas marry white ladies, and that is the society we live in. It is not to be criticized, and if it works for you, embrace it “.
Director Malcolm D. Lee was also a fan of the film’s depiction of an interracial couple. “Successful African-American women can’t always find successful black male counterparts, so it’s a little bit of a reflection of the reality that black women are starting to date beyond their race — and why not?”
