Jeurys Familia Mojica was born on October 10, 1989, he is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Major League Baseball Philadelphia Phillies (MLB).
He previously spent time with the New York Mets and the Oakland A’s. The Mets signed Familia as a non-drafted free agent in 2007. He made his Major League Baseball debut in 2012. During the 2015 season, Familia was named the Mets’ closer.
He was named an MLB All-Star in 2016. The Mets traded him to the Oakland Athletics in July 2018, and he signed a three-year contract with them following the 2018 season.
On July 21, 2018, Familia was traded to the Athletics in exchange for Will Toffey and Bobby Wahl.For the A’s, Familia relieved closer Blake Treinen. In 30 games with the A’s, Familia was 4-2 with 40 strikeouts in 31+13 innings pitched.
Familia was re-signed by the Mets to a three-year contract on December 14, 2018. Familia pitched in 66 games for New York in 2019, with a 5.70 ERA and a 4-2 record with 63 strikeouts in 60 innings thrown.
Familia improved on his last season for the Mets in 2020, throwing to a 3.71 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 26+23 innings of work. Familia achieved a career-high nine wins in 2021 while pitching to a 3.94 ERA with 72 strikeouts in 59+13 innings.
