Who is Kyle Gibson?
Kyle Benjamin Gibson is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies in the United States. He has played for the Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers in Major League Baseball.
Gibson was born in Greenfield, Indiana, on October 23, 1987, to Harold and Sharon Gibson. Holly is his sister’s name.
Gibson transferred from Cathedral High School in Indianapolis to Greenfield-Central High School between his freshman and sophomore years of high school, and as a result, the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) ruled that he could only play for Greenfield-high Central’s school baseball team for one season.
He went 7–2 as a junior, leading the Cougars to a sectional championship and the regional championships. He went 8–6 with a 0.98 ERA and 140 strikeouts as a senior.
He pitched all of Greenfield’s tournament games, leading the team to the Elite Eight. After his senior year, he was voted Hancock County Player of the Year.
In both his junior and senior years, he was nominated to the Indianapolis Star All-East team. He was selected All-East Player of the Year and to the Indiana All-Star Team after his senior year.
Gibson was taken in the 36th round of the 2006 MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies, but he declined to sign with them.
Instead, he chose to play collegiate baseball for the Missouri Tigers, where he started behind Aaron Crow as the No. 2 starter.
He was selected as a league all-star while playing collegiate summer baseball with the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2007.
