Corey Andrew Knebel is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies in the United States.
He has played for the Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Los Angeles Dodgers in Major League Baseball.
Knebel played college baseball for the Texas Longhorns after enrolling at the University of Texas in 2011.
As a freshman, he became the Longhorns’ closer and tied J. Brent Cox and Charlie Thames for the most saves in a single season (19).
The NBCWA and Collegiate Baseball Magazine named him the NCBWA Stopper of the Year and Freshman of the Year.
Knebel was named to the First Squad All-American team as well as the First Team All-Big 12 Conference team.
Knebel was the Longhorn closer once again in 2012, ending the season with nine saves and a 2.08 ERA.
Despite not being able to duplicate his freshman season’s achievements, he was named first-team All-Big 12 once again.
Knebel was selected 39th overall in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft by the Detroit Tigers. The first traded draft slot in Major League history was this supplemental pick.
The pick was part of a 2012 transaction that includes Anibal Sánchez, Omar Infante, and Jacob Turner between the Tigers and the Miami Marlins.
Before getting called up by the Tigers, Knebel played for the Class-A West Michigan Whitecaps, Double-A Erie SeaWolves, and Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens.
On May 24, 2014, he made his major league debut against the Texas Rangers.
