James L. McArthur is an American professional baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Philadelphia Phillies.
McArthur attended the University of Mississippi and played baseball there.
The Philadelphia Phillies selected him in the 12th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft.
After the 2021 season, the Phillies added him to their 40-man roster.
After three years at the University of Mississippi and a season with the Falmouth Commodores in the Cape Cod League, McArthur was picked in the 12th round by Philadelphia in the 2018 June Amateur Draft.
McArthur has traveled through the minor leagues since being drafted by the Phillies, reaching as high as AA ball with the Reading Phillies.
In 2021, McArthur spent the majority of his time with Reading, where he had a 2-6 record and a 4.25 ERA. McArthur’s problems continued in the Arizona Fall League when he pitched for Peoria and had an ERA of 8.10 in five starts.
McArthur, a 25-year-old right-hander and 2018 12th-round pick, pitched at double-A Reading last season and had a 4.48 ERA.
In November, the Phillies signed him to their 40-man roster to prevent losing him in the Rule 5 draft, which was postponed due to the lockout.
Now, while several of the Phillies’ double-A and triple-A pitchers prepare for a minicamp later this month ahead of the start of minor-league spring training on March 5, McArthur, who missed a season of development due to the pandemic in 2020, is unable to participate due to his roster status.
