Nicholas B. Nelson is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies in the United States (MLB).
He formerly played for the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball. Nelson went to Panama City, Florida’s Rutherford High School.
He was picked in the 31st round of the 2014 MLB draft by the San Francisco Giants, however, he did not sign and instead played collegiate baseball at Gulf Coast Community College.
The New York Yankees selected him in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB draft and signed him. Along with the Pulaski Yankees, Nelson made his major league debut, finishing 0–3 with a 3.38 ERA in 21+1/3 innings of work.
After making 22 starts in 2017 with the Charleston RiverDogs and going 3–12 with a 4.56 ERA, he went 8–6 with a 3.55 ERA in 2018 with the Charleston, Tampa Tarpons, and Trenton Thunder across 26 games (25 starts).
He appeared in 18 games (17 starts) for Tampa, Trenton, and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in 2019, going 8-3 with a 2.81 ERA in 89+2/3 innings.
When he was signed by the Yankees on July 26, 2020, Nelson became an official member of the team. It was on August 1 that he made his MLB debut, pitching three innings of scoreless relief to earn a victory against the Boston Red Sox.
The New York Yankees transferred Nelson to the Philadelphia Phillies on November 19, 2021, in exchange for TJ Rumfield and Joel Valdez.
