Austin Nola is an American professional baseball catcher for the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played in MLB for the Seattle Mariners.
Nola was chosen by the Colorado Rockies out of high school in 2008, but he turned down the option to play college baseball for Louisiana State University, where he helped the Tigers win the 2009 College World Series.
In 2011, he was picked by the Toronto Blue Jays after his junior year, but he chose to finish his college career.
Nola was subsequently taken in the fifth round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the Miami Marlins, and he chose to sign with them for a $75,000 signing bonus.
He progressed through the Marlins’ farm system over the next three seasons, eventually reaching the Triple-A New Orleans Zephyrs in 2015.
