The Phillies needed an additional member in their starting rotation after a rain delay necessitated a doubleheader against the San Diego Padres, so Suárez was promoted to the big leagues on July 24, 2018.
On July 26, he made his major league debut, allowing six hits and four runs in five innings, including two two-run home runs from Eugenio Suarez and Tucker Barnhart.
However, Suárez was victorious, as the Phillies won 9–4 thanks to seven home runs. He became the Phillies’ first left-handed starter since Adam Morgan in 2016.
Suárez started three games for the Phillies in 2018, posting a 1–1 record, a 5.40 ERA, and 11 strikeouts in 15 innings.
Suárez, the Phillies’ No. 10 prospect according to MLB.com, returned to Lehigh in 2019. On June 20, he received his final promotion to the Phillies after two brief major-league call-ups in June.
In July of that year, he became the first Phillies pitcher to win three straight games since Michael Stutes in 2011.
Suárez became a regular in the Phillies’ bullpen as a left-handed reliever with Morgan and José Alvarez, despite pitching 82 of his 94 minor league games as a starter.
In 2019, he pitched 37 innings in relief for the Phillies, appearing in eight games. Suárez went 6–1 with a 3.14 ERA in 48+23 innings pitched, striking out 42 batters.
