José Suárez (born August 26, 1995) is a Venezuelan baseball pitcher who now pitches for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Suárez, a native of Pie de Cuesta, was signed as an international free agent by the Phillies in 2012. A drug ban cut short his debut season in the Venezuelan Summer League (VSL), but he returned to pitch in the VSL for two more seasons.
He began to gain the attention of the Phillies organization in 2014, after giving up only one walk for the whole season, and he was promoted to the Rookie League the following year. In 2016, Suárez’s profile continued to improve as he pitched a no-hitter for the Williamsport Crosscutters.
The Phillies needed an additional member in their starting rotation when a rain delay necessitated a doubleheader against the San Diego Padres, thus Suárez was promoted to the big leagues on July 24, 2018.
The pitcher inked a contract with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2020, which paid him a staggering 575,000 dollars (526,808 euros) each year.
In 2022, Ranger Suarez agreed to a one-year, $730,000 contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, with $730,000 guaranteed and a $730,000 average yearly pay. Suarez currently receives a base pay of $730,000 in 2022, with a total salary of $730,000.
