Jacob Tyler Realmuto, born on March 18, 1991, is an American Major League Baseball catcher for the Philadelphia Phillies (MLB). He was a member of the Miami Marlins from 2014 to 2018.
Realmuto was born into an athletic household in Del City, Oklahoma. He participated in a variety of sports throughout his childhood, helping Carl Albert High School’s baseball and gridiron football teams win state championships.
Despite playing shortstop for the baseball team during his high school career, a scout with the Miami Marlins persuaded Realmuto to become a full-time catcher.
The Marlins selected him in the third round of the 2010 MLB Draft, and Realmuto chose to sign with the team rather than honor a commitment to playing college baseball at Oklahoma State. He spent the next several seasons in the Marlins’ farm system, building strong relationships with pitchers and working on picking off attempted base stealers.
On November 4, 2017, Realmuto married his bride, Alexis Taylor. The couple’s first child, a girl, was born on July 10, 2018, only a few days before Realmuto made his first All-Star appearance.
On July 11, 2019, their second daughter was born. The Realmutos live in Haddonfield, New Jersey, during the baseball season, and in Oklahoma City during the offseason. Realmuto and his wife are also devout Christians.
