Johan Camargo is a Panamanian professional baseball infielder for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played for the Atlanta Braves. He made his MLB debut in 2017.
Camargo was named the Braves’ starting third baseman in May 2018 and held the position until the team signed Josh Donaldson for the 2019 season.
Camargo filled in for starting shortstop Dansby Swanson after Swanson’s injury, but he struggled defensively and offensively.
As a result, on August 16, Camargo was demoted to the Gwinnett Stripers. When rosters were increased in September, Camargo was able to return to the major leagues.
On September 11, he suffered a hairline fracture in his right shin in a game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Camargo was then placed on the 10-day disabled list by the Braves.
Camargo was swiftly recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on April 11, 2017, after missing out on the Opening Day roster. He made his debut that night.
Camargo’s playing time improved in June when third baseman Adonis Garcia was placed on the disabled list after two brief appearances in the major leagues.
