Alex Michael Faedo is a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball.
In Tampa, Florida, Faedo went to Braulio Alonso High School. He went 6–2 in 48 innings as a senior, with a 0.58 ERA and 68 strikeouts.
He went 8–2 with a 1.15 ERA as a junior, including a no-hitter. Faedo was picked in the 40th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft by the Detroit Tigers, but he did not sign and instead played college baseball for the University of Florida.
Faedo pitched in 17 games with 12 starts as a freshman at Florida in 2015, going 6–1 with a 3.23 ERA and 59 strikeouts.
He started 17 games as a sophomore in 2016, going 13–3 with a 3.18 ERA and 133 strikeouts. Faedo went on to play for the United States collegiate national team after the season.
He went 7–2 with a 2.60 ERA and 132 strikeouts over 107+13 innings thrown as a junior in 2017, and helped lead Florida to the College World Series and their first National Championship.
Faedo allowed five hits and no runs in 14+13 innings versus TCU during the College World Series, striking out 22 batters.
The Detroit Tigers selected Faedo in the first round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft, 18th overall.
He signed with the Tigers, but due to his workload at Florida, he did not make his professional debut in 2017 and sat out the season.
Faedo began the 2018 season with the Lakeland Flying Tigers of the Florida State League’s Class A-Advanced division.
Faedo was promoted to the Erie SeaWolves of the Class AA Eastern League by the Tigers on June 18. Between the two organizations, he was 5-10 with a 4.02 ERA in 24 starts.
Faedo has returned to Erie to start the new year. In 22 starts with the SeaWolves in 2019, he went 6-7 with a 3.90 ERA and 134 strikeouts in 115+13 innings.
