Matthew George Manning (born January 28, 1998) is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Detroit Tigers (MLB). He was drafted in the first round of the 2016 MLB draft by the Tigers.
Manning was taken ninth overall in the 2016 Major League Baseball draft by the Detroit Tigers. Instead of attending college, Manning signed with the Tigers and received a $3,505,800 signing bonus, which was the exact slot value for the ninth overall pick.
Manning was sent to the Gulf Coast Tigers of the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League after signing with the Tigers, where he had a 0–2 win–loss record with a 3.99 ERA in 10 starts, pitching no more than three innings each start.
He was invited to Spring Training by the Detroit Tigers as a non-roster invitee on January 16, 2020, before the season was postponed due to the coronavirus. After the season, the Tigers added him to their 40-man roster.
Manning was promoted to the main leagues for the first time on June 15, 2021, and made his MLB debut on June 17 as a starting pitcher against the Los Angeles Angels. Manning took the loss in his first start, pitching five innings and surrendering two runs while striking out three batters.
