Spencer Ketcham Turnbull, an American professional baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball, was born on September 18, 1992.
In 2018, he made his MLB debut. Turnbull pitched a no-hitter against the Seattle Mariners on May 18, 2021. Turnbull was taken 63rd overall in the second round of the 2014 MLB draft by the Detroit Tigers.
He received a $900,600 signing bonus when he joined the Tigers. He started his professional career with the GCL Tigers and was promoted to the Connecticut Tigers after one start, where he concluded the season with a 0–2 record and 4.45 ERA in 11 starts.
In 22 starts with the West Michigan Whitecaps in 2015, he was 11–3 with a 3.01 ERA and 1.35 WHIP. Due to shoulder impingement, he missed most of the 2016 season.
Turnbull was placed on the injured list on June 5, 2021, with a right forearm strain, and following a setback in his recuperation, he was transferred to the 60-day injured list on July 7.
On July 20, 2021, Turnbull stated that he will have Tommy John surgery, which would terminate his season. He was 4–2 with a 2.88 ERA in nine games with Detroit in 2021.
Spencer Turnbull agreed to a two-year, $3,650,000 contract with the Detroit Tigers, with $3,650,000 guaranteed and a $1,825,000 yearly average pay. Turnbull will be paid a basic salary of $1,500,000 in 2022, as well as a total pay of $1,500,000.
