William Vest is a Major League Baseball pitcher with the Detroit Tigers in the United States. Will Vest formerly played for the Seattle Mariners in Major League Baseball.
Vest went to Sienna, Texas’ Ridge Point High School. He was a shortstop for the baseball club at his high school.
He enrolled at Stephen F. Austin State University, where he was a member of the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks, a college baseball team. Vest pursued a career as a pitcher in college.
The Detroit Tigers selected Vest in the 12th round, 365th overall, of the 2017 MLB draft. Vest made his pro debut with the Low-A Connecticut Tigers, where he went 3-1 with a 2.83 ERA in 21 games.
In 30 games, he divided the 2018 season between the Single-A West Michigan Whitecaps and the High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers, posting a 4-4 record and 5.18 ERA.
Vest was taken in the Rule 5 draft by the Seattle Mariners on December 10, 2020. On Opening Day, he was named to the Mariners’ roster.
Vest was named to the Opening Day roster and made his major league debut in relief on the first day of the season. Seattle designated Vest for assignment on July 12 after he had a 6.17 ERA in 32 bullpen appearances.
On July 17, 2021, Vest cleared waivers and was returned to the Tigers by Seattle. Vest was assigned to Toledo by the Tigers. Vest was named to the Tigers’ Opening Day roster in 2022.
