Joseph Barrett Wentz (born October 6, 1997) is an American professional baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Detroit Tigers. In the 2016 MLB draft, the Atlanta Braves picked Wentz with the 40th overall choice.

Dave and Jenny Wentz had a son named Wentz on October 6, 1997. Riley Pint was his first friend while they were both in second grade.
In Prairie Village, Kansas, Wentz went to Shawnee Mission East High School. In his junior and senior seasons, he was voted the Sunflower League Player of the Year.
At the 2015 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, Wentz won the 2015 Junior Home Drive Derby by hitting a 543-foot home run (166 m).
Wentz and Travis Demeritte were dealt to the Detroit Tigers for Shane Greene on July 31, 2019. Wentz was 7–8 with a 4.20 ERA in 128+23 innings in his first complete season at the AA level. Following the 2020 season, he was added to the Tigers’ 40-man roster.
In March of 2020, he underwent Tommy John surgery and missed the whole season. To begin the 2021 season, he was sent to Triple-A.
Wentz appeared in 18 games in the A and AA levels while recovering from surgery, going 0–7 with a 5.25 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 72 innings.
