Antonin Kachlik was a Czech film director and screenwriter. He directed 21 films between 1948 and 1987. In 1973, he was a member of the jury at the 8th Moscow International Film Festival.
Kachlik was born in the Czechoslovak town of Rozdlov [cs], which is today known as Kladno-Rozdlov. His family moved to Prague in 1931, and he grew up in Malá Dobrá. He studied at the Prague-Karln trade school.
He attended the College of Political and Social Sciences after WWII before enrolling in the Film Academy to further his study (FAMU). In 1950, he received his diploma from the Film Academy.
Kachlk traveled to Zln to work as a dramaturge at the Workers’ Theatre after graduation, before joining the military from 1952 to 1954.
He wrote and published five novels, the most recent of which was released in 2003. The script How Schweik Was Born and How Haek Died, based on the theory that Jaroslav Haek was poisoned in Lipnice by soldiers of the Russian White Army, was never produced.
