Who Is Josh Hader?
Joshua Ronald Hader is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Milwaukee Brewers. He’s a three-time All-Star and three-time Reliever of the Year winner in the National League.
He was drafted in the 19th round of the 2012 MLB draft by the Baltimore Orioles.
Before entering the Brewers organization in 2015, he was traded twice. Hader represented the United States in the Pan American Games in 2015, and he was also featured in the 2016 All-Star Futures Game.
Hader was acquired by the Brewers in 2015 and made his MLB debut in 2017. He became the fastest pitcher to reach 400 strikeouts in major league history in 2021.
Hader went to Millersville, Maryland’s Old Mill High School, where he was a member of the baseball team.
Hader finished his senior season with a 10–0 record, a 0.30 earned run average (ERA), and 125 strikeouts. In addition, he had a batting average of over.400.
Hader was planning to attend Anne Arundel Community College after graduating from high school.
Hader was taken by the Baltimore Orioles in the 19th round of the 2012 MLB draft, with the 582nd overall pick.
Rather than attend Anne Arundel, he signed with the Orioles for a $40,000 signing bonus.
Hader’s fastball velocity increased from 84–88 miles per hour (135–142 kilometers per hour) as a high school player to 94–95 miles per hour (151–153 kilometers per hour) as he modified his workout program.
Hader pitched for the Gulf Coast Orioles of the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League and the Aberdeen Ironbirds of the Class A-Short Season New York–Penn League, striking out 48 batters in 28+23 innings pitched.
Hader was assigned to the Delmarva Shorebirds of the Class A South Atlantic League by the Orioles in 2013.
He pitched in the SAL All-Star Game and had a 3–6 record with 79 strikeouts and a 2.65 ERA in 17 starts through July 31.
