Freddy Peralta Diaz is a Dominican baseball pitcher who now plays for the Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball.
How Old Is Freddy Peralta?
Freddy Peralta was born on June 4, 1996. He is 25 years old.
Freddy Peralta wanted to prove he belonged in the rotation after spending the previous two years in the bullpen. Peralta had a strong spring, winning the fifth slot over Josh Lindblom, and he’s showing no signs of relinquishing it a month into the season.
Peralta’s one outing as a reliever came on Opening Day, but he’s been in the rotation since.
He’s only made five starts as a starter and has a 3.11 FIP, which is excellent for a starter at the top of the rotation, but even better coming from someone who had to fight for a place in spring training.
The right-hander has 45 strikeouts in 28 innings, including seven in six innings against the Dodgers in his most recent start.
With a strikeout percentage of 40.2, Peralta is sandwiched between Gerrit Cole and Shane Bieber among qualified starters. Peralta’s strikeout rate peaked at 37.6% in 2020, after hovering around 30% in his first two seasons in the majors.
He attributes the improvement to a modification in pitch mix. Throughout his career, Peralta has largely been a two-pitch pitcher, depending primarily on his fastball and curveball while mixing in the rare changeup.
He has resembled a one-pitch pitcher at times, throwing his fastball more than 70% of the time.
He started throwing a slider, but only when necessary. In favor of the slider, he has reduced his use of both the fastball and the curve this season.
Peralta has become significantly less predictable thanks to a more uniform mix and an excellent third pitch. Previously, hitters could sit on the fastball if Peralta fell behind in the count.
