Dominican professional baseball pitcher Roany Contreras was born on November 7, 1999, and he now plays for the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2021.

2016 international free agent Contreras signed with the Yankees. In 2017, he divided his time between the DSL and GCL Yankees, finishing 4–4 with a 4.02 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 53+23 innings.

Contreras divided 2018 between the Staten Island Yankees and Charleston RiverDogs, finishing 0–2 with a 2.42 ERA and 60 strikeouts.

In 2019, he returned to Charleston and went 12–5 with a 3.33 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 132+3 innings. Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, he didn’t play in 2020. The Yankees added him after 2020.

Contreras was chosen for the All-Star Futures Game in 2021.  A right forearm injury kept him out from June 30 until September 1.

He spent the 2021 minor league season between Altoona and Indianapolis, finishing 3–2 with a 2.64 ERA and 82 strikeouts.

On September 29, 2021, Contreras was added to the active roster and will face the Chicago Cubs that night.
