Pawtucket was Chavis’ first opponent of the 2019 season. For the first time, he was added to the major league active roster on April 19.
The next day, he made his MLB debut against the Tampa Bay Rays, double as a pinch hitter. In a 4–2 loss to the Detroit Tigers on April 23, Chavis hit his first major league home run.
In a 6–5 triumph over the Colorado Rockies on May 15, he hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning. Chavis was named the American League Rookie of the Month for the month of May on June 3.
Chavis had played in 63 games for Boston by the end of June, batting .261 with 14 home runs and 44 RBIs.
