Born on May 17, 1992, Ben Gamel is a 29-year-old outfielder in Major League Baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has played for the New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, Milwaukee Brewers, and Cleveland Indians in the Major League Baseball (MLB).
In the 2010 Major League Baseball draft, the New York Yankees picked Gamel in the 10th round. He signed with the Yankees and debuted in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League with the Gulf Coast Yankees.
He was a member of the Class A-Short Season New York-Penn League’s Staten Island Yankees in 2011 and the Class A South Atlantic League’s Charleston RiverDogs in 2012.
Before being promoted to the Trenton Thunder of the Class AA Eastern League, he began the 2013 season with the Tampa Yankees of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League.
In 2014, he returned to Trenton and joined the Class AAA International League’s Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. After the 2015 season, he was signed to the Yankees’ 40-man roster.
The Pittsburgh Pirates picked up Gamel off waivers on May 9, 2021. Gamel hit.255/.352/.399 with eight home runs and 26 RBIs in 111 games with the Pirates.
