He was born on May 17, 1992. He has previously played for the New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, Milwaukee Brewers, and Cleveland Indians in the Major League Baseball (MLB).
Gamel was drafted in the 10th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft by the New York Yankees. He signed with the Yankees and debuted in the Gulf Coast League’s Rookie-level Gulf Coast League with the Gulf Coast Yankees.
In 2011, he was a member of the Class A-Short Season New York-Penn League’s Staten Island Yankees, and in 2012, he was a member of the Class A South Atlantic League’s Charleston RiverDogs.
He began the 2013 season with the Class A-Advanced Florida State League’s Tampa Yankees before being promoted to the Class AA Eastern League’s Trenton Thunder. In 2014, he returned to Trenton and played for the Class AAA International League’s Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in 2015.
After the 2015 season, the Yankees added him to their 40-man roster.
The Pittsburgh Pirates claimed Gamel off waivers on May 9, 2021. Gamel batted.255/.352/.399 in 111 games for the Pirates, with 8 home runs and 26 RBIs.
