Joseph Israel Barlow (born September 28, 1995) is an American Major League Baseball pitcher for the Texas Rangers (MLB). In 2021, he made his MLB debut.
Riverton High School in Riverton, Utah, was Barlow’s alma mater. In 2015 and 2016, he played collegiate baseball for Salt Lake Community College in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Barlow was a catcher his rookie year and hit.202 with zero home runs and 13 RBI. Barlow saw action as a pitcher and catcher in his second season.
With 14 RBI, he’s hitting .208 Barlow finished 3–3 with a 2.12 ERA and 51 strikeouts over 46+23 innings thrown in 13 games pitched (7 starts).
The Texas Rangers picked Barlow in the 11th round (339th overall) in the 2016 MLB draft. He agreed to terms with them in exchange for an $85,000 signing bonus.
Texas picked Barlow’s contract and promoted him to the major leagues for the first time on June 23, 2021. The next day, he made his MLB debut, tossing a scoreless inning against the Oakland Athletics.
In the game, he also struck out A’s infielder Jed Lowrie for his first career strikeout. On August 2, Barlow broke a Rangers franchise record by becoming the first pitcher to strike out eight consecutive hitters faced.
Barlow has always strived to keep his personal life far away from public scrutiny, and so it is assumed that, he has no children.
