Matthew Brian Bush is an MLB pitcher for the Texas Rangers (MLB). The San Diego Padres selected him first overall in the 2004 MLB draft.
Bush had only reached Double-A, two stages below Major League level, prior to his debut on May 13, 2016.
The Padres traded him to the Blue Jays in 2009, although he never played for them. After that, he was dismissed by the Tampa Bay Rays due to a drunken driving incident in 2012.
In December 2012, he pled no contest to the charges and was sentenced to 51 months in state prison. After serving 39 months, he joined the Texas Rangers.
Bush graduated from San Diego’s Mission Bay High School. He was a top major league prospect at shortstop because of his defence and arm strength.
He batted.450 with 11 home runs and 35 runs batted in (RBIs). He also pitched, with a fastball of 94 mph and a good curveball.
Bush had a 5–1 record, two saves, and a 0.73 ERA in five starts (ERA). Bush was widely regarded as one of the finest five-tool players to emerge from high school.
In high school, he also played soccer and ran track.
