Brett Ryan Martin is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Texas Rangers (MLB). In 2019, he made his MLB debut.
In Morristown, Tennessee, Martin attended Morristown-Hamblen High School East. Martin went to the University of Tennessee after being undrafted out of high school,
but he sustained an injury and had to transfer before playing in the game. In 2014, he transferred to Walters State Community College and pitched for them, with a 9–2 record in 42 innings with a 3.83 earned run average (ERA).
He was selected in the fourth round, 126th overall, of the 2014 MLB draft by the Texas Rangers, and signed for a $475,000 signing bonus.
In his professional debut in 2014, he went 1–4 with a 5.40 ERA in 15 games with the Rookie-level AZL Rangers. In 20 games with the Hickory Crawdads of the Class A South Atlantic League in 2015,
he went 5–6 with a 3.49 ERA (18 starts). In 17 starts between the Arizona Fall League and the High Desert Mavericks in 2016, he went 4–4 with a 4.41 ERA.
After the 2017 season, the Texas Rangers added Martin to their 40-man roster. He spent the 2018 season with the Double-A Texas League’s Frisco RoughRiders.
He got called up to the major league roster for the first time on April 19, 2019. That night, he made his MLB debut, pitching a scoreless inning in relief against the Houston Astros.
