Garrett Richards is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the Los Angeles Angels, San Diego Padres, and Boston Red Sox.
Richards returned from the injured list and made his first start of the season.
This year, he made 32 starts and threw a total of 17 wild pitches, which put him at the top of the league. A 3.65 earned run average (ERA) put him at 15–12.
Richards‘ 2016 season was short-lived, with a 1–3 record and a 2.34 ERA in just six appearances. A damaged ligament in Richards’ pitching elbow was discovered on May 6, 2016.
Richards’ injury necessitated surgery, which meant that he would miss the rest of the 2016 season.
Tommy John’s surgery wasn’t an option for him; instead, he had biometric surgery. As a result of injuries, Richards played just six games last year.
Does Garrett Richards Have Options?
A one-year, $4.5 million contract with right-handed pitcher Garrett Richards has been agreed to by the Rangers and the right-handed pitcher’s agent.
An additional $9 million club option with a $1 million buyout is included in the contract, according to a source.
The recently signed Martn Pérez was Richards’ Boston teammate last season. Over the course of 136 innings pitched in 2021, Richards appeared in 40 games (22 starts) with the Reds, posting an ERA of 4.87.
