He formerly played for the Major League Baseball (MLB) St. Louis Cardinals and the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) Yomiuri Giants (NPB).
García was traded to the Texas Rangers for monetary considerations on December 21, 2019. For the Rangers in 2020, García earned only 6 at-bats and went hitless.
García was designated for assignment on February 10, 2021, following the formal signing of Mike Foltynewicz. García was outrighted and invited to Spring Training as a non-roster invitee on February 12.
García was added to the active roster on April 13, 2021, after Ronald Guzmán was placed on the disabled list. García was selected American League Rookie of the Month in May 2021 after hitting.312 with a.633 slugging percentage and 11 home runs.
García was a reserve for the American League in the 2021 MLB All-Star Game, going one for two with a double. García batted.243/.286/.454 in 2021, leading all rookies with 90 RBIs and 59 extra-base hits. He also had 31 home runs and 16 outfield assists, which equaled him for the league lead.
