Amir Garrett Cincinnati Reds Career

Garrett started the 2013 baseball season with Billings before being promoted to the Class A Midwest League’s Dayton Dragons in July.

In 57+23 innings, he had a 5.15 ERA with 32 strikeouts and 26 walks. In time for the 2014 season, he returned to Dayton.

Garrett opted to drop out of Cal-State Northridge and focus on baseball in August 2014. In 27 starts, he went 7–8 with a 3.65 ERA, and the Reds promoted him to their 40-man roster.

He started the 2015 season with the Daytona Tortugas of the Florida State League (FSL) and was selected to represent the Reds in the 2015 All-Star Futures Game.

Garrett was named the Co-FSL Pitcher of the Year alongside Jacob Faria after finishing the 2015 season with a 2.44 ERA and 133 strikeouts for Daytona.

Garrett began the 2016 season with the Class AA Southern League’s Pensacola Blue Wahoos. In June, he was assigned to the Louisville Bats of the Class AAA International League.

He was selected to play in the All-Star Futures Game in 2016. He has a 7–8 record and a 2.55 ERA in 2016.

In 2017, Garrett was named to the Reds’ Opening Day roster.

Garrett made his major league debut on April 7 against the St. Louis Cardinals, pitching six scoreless innings while allowing only two hits and earning the win in the Reds’ 2–0 victory.

Garrett was optioned down to the Reds’ AAA club Louisville Bats on May 7, 2017, while RHP Barrett Astin was recalled.

Garrett was placed on the 10-day disabled list on May 25, 2017 due to right hip irritation. Throughout the season, Garrett was optioned and recalled several times.

He went 2–4 with a 5.72 ERA in 14 starts for Louisville, and he went 3–8 with a 7.39 ERA in 16 games (14 starts) for Cincinnati.

Garrett started the 2018 season as a reliever with the Cincinnati Reds. He was 12–2 with a 4.29 ERA with 71 strikeouts in 63 innings in 66 games.
