Carlos Eduardo Hernández (born March 11, 1997) is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Kansas City Royals of Venezuela (MLB). In the year 2020, he made his MLB debut.
On July 19, 2016, Hernández signed as an international free agent with the Kansas City Royals, receiving a $15,000 signing bonus.
He pitched for the Burlington Royals in 2017, going 1–4 with a 5.49 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 62+13 innings. He pitched for the Lexington Legends in 2018, finishing 6–5 with a 3.29 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 79+13 innings.
In 2019, Hernández sustained a stress fracture in his rib cage and did not make his season debut until June 21. He pitched for the AZL Royals, Burlington, and Lexington this season, finishing 3–5 with a 5.31 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 57+23 innings.
Following the 2019 season, Hernández was added to the Royals’ 40-man roster.
Hernández was promoted to the main leagues for the first time on September 1, 2020, and made his debut against the Cleveland Indians that day, pitching 3+23 scoreless innings.
Hernández pitched in five games for the 2020 Kansas City Royals, posting a 0–1 record with a 4.91 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 14+23 innings thrown. He had a 6–2 record in 2021, with a 3.68 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 85+23 innings.
