Joshua Tyler Staumont (born December 21, 1993) is an MLB pitcher for the Kansas City Royals.
Staumont played collegiate baseball for Biola University and Azusa Pacific University after graduating from La Habra High School in La Habra, California.
He won a league title with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox while playing collegiate summer baseball in the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2014. He was taken in the second round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft by the Kansas City Royals, making him one of Azusa Pacific’s most highly selected players.
Staumont debuted professionally in 2015 with the Arizona League Royals before being promoted to the Idaho Falls Chukars, where he went 3-1 with a 2.48 ERA in 18 games.
Staumont appeared in 29 games (26 starts) for both the Wilmington Blue Rocks and the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in 2016, posting a combined 4-11 record and 4.23 ERA. He participated in the Arizona Fall League after the season ended.
Staumont was promoted to the big leagues by the Royals on July 20th, 2019.
On July 25, he debuted in the major leagues, pitching two scoreless innings of relief.
He had a 2.45 ERA in 2020, going 2–1. The average exit velocity of balls hit off of him was 94.4 mph, which was the highest of any big-league pitcher.
Staumont was 4–3 with a 2.88 ERA in 65+23 innings in 2021.
