Dozier commenced his professional career when he was selected in the eighth round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft. For the Royals, he signed a $2.2 million signing bonus. He joined the Idaho Falls Chukars at the minor level before the major league. With them, he batted a .308 with seven home runs and 52 RBIs.
His early years were spent at Denton High School in Denton, Texas, where he was a member of the baseball and American teams. His football hopes were cut short when he shattered his clavicle in his Junior year, while still in his early years. When he reached his senior year, he moved his focus to baseball.
Dozier attended Stephen F. Austin State University after graduating from high school. He was voted Player of the Year in the Southland Conference.
On September 2, 2016, Dozier was promoted to the major leagues and made his debut appearance on September 12. On September 16, he also had his first Major League hit.
