Andrew Sebastian Benintendi, well known by his nickname “Benny Biceps,” is a Major League Baseball left fielder for the Kansas City Royals.
From 2016 until 2020, he was a member of the Boston Red Sox. Benintendi was a member of the University of Arkansas Razorbacks during his college baseball career.
Benintendi was drafted in the first round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft by the Red Sox, and he made his MLB debut in 2016. He bats and throws left-handed and is listed as 5 feet 9 inches (1.75 m) and 180 pounds (82 kg).
In Madeira, Ohio, Benintendi attended Madeira High School.
He was the ABCA/Rawlings National High School Player of the Year and Ohio Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year as a senior, hitting .564 with 12 home runs, 57 RBIs, and 38 stolen bases for the Mustangs baseball team.
He concluded his high school career with a state record of 199 runs batted in.
He also excelled in high school basketball, receiving Division III Co-Player of the Year honors in 2011–12 and setting school marks in a career (1,753) and season (638) points, career 3-pointers (180), and points per game in a season (25.5).
Benintendi was selected in the 31st round of the 2013 MLB draft by the Cincinnati Reds, however he did not sign with the team.
Benintendi signed a letter of intent to play college baseball with the Arkansas Razorbacks. He hit .276/.368/.333 with one home run and 27 RBI in 61 games as a true freshman, starting 60 of them.
Benintendi led the Southeastern Conference in batting average (.380), home runs (19), on-base percentage (.489), slugging percentage (.715), and walks (.715) in 2015. (47).
