Major League Baseball outfielder Edward Olivares is from Venezuela and currently plays for the Kansas City Royals (MLB). He was formerly a member of the San Diego Padres baseball team.
On July 2, 2014, the Toronto Blue Jays signed Olivares as an international free agent. It was with the DSL in 2014 that he made his major-league debut.
In 2017, he played for the Lansing Lugnuts and the Dunedin Blue Jays, playing in all but one game.
On January 6, 2018, the San Diego Padres acquired Olivares and Jared Carkuff for Yangervis Solarte. He hit.277/.321/.429/.750 with 12 home runs and 62 RBI for the Lake Elsinore Storm in 2018.
The Padres signed him after the season. In 2019, Olivares slashed for the Amarillo Sod Poodles.
When the Padres dealt Olivares and a player who would not be named until later to the Kansas City Royals on August 29, 2020, they received bullpen pitcher Trevor Rosenthal in return.
In 18 games with the 2020 Royals, Olivares batted.274 with two home runs and seven RBIs while hitting.274 overall.
Throughout the season, he was shuttled back and forth between Triple-A and the Royals’ organization. For the eighth time in his career, he returned to Kansas City on September 20, 2021.
