Ajax Legend Henk Groot Cause Of Death, How Did Henk Groot Die?
A former Ajax and Feyenoord striker, Henk Groot passed away. Ajax has confirmed his death through an online statement but the cause of his death was not stated. He was 84 years old when he died.
Groot spent the majority of his playing career with Ajax (between 1959 and 1963 and from 1965 to 1969). Feyenoord signed him for two seasons in the interim.
Groot scored for both teams on a regular basis. While playing for the Dutch club Ajax, he netted 207 goals during 305 appearances. Three players scored more goals for the Amsterdam team than any other: Sjaak Swart, Johan Cruijff, and Piet van Reenen.
Furthermore, Groot remains Ajax’s all-time leading scorer in the league. In the 1960/61 season, he racked up 41 hits, after a season in which he walked 37 times.
Feyenoord benefited greatly from Groot’s contributions. In 54 games, the striker scored 34 goals for Rotterdam.
While playing for Feyenoord in 1963, he returned to Ajax two years later and played there until his retirement in 1969 due to knee injuries.
Groot was awarded numerous prizes in addition to individual honors.
He won four Eredivisie titles with Ajax, as well as one with Feyenoord, during his time in the Dutch league. During his time at both clubs, Groot won three KNVB Cups.
With 196 goals in the Eredivisie, he is still sixth on the all-time list of Eredivisie scorers. While at Ajax, he served as a role model for Johan Cruyff. After he retired, he worked for the Amsterdam club as a scout.
