Tony Abu Akleh is currently the only known family of the late Al Jazeera reporter Shireen Abu Akleh. Shireen was a Palestinian and American journalist who was working for the Al Jazeera Media Network before her untimely death this morning.
Shireen’s parents are Arab Christians from Bethlehem and as of now, their names have not been revealed as no family member has come out to make any public statement concerning her death. So no information is known about her family, her parents, or her brother Tony Abu Akleh.
The reporter was born on January 3, 1971, in Jerusalem and was 51 at the time of her death. She had her secondary school education in Beit, Hanini, and furthered to the Jordan University of Science and Technology where she read Architecture. She later transferred to Yarmouk University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Print journalism.
She began working as a professional journalist in 1997 for Al Jazeera where she was an Arabic language Correspondent for 25 years before her passing today. She also worked for UNRWA, the Amman Satellite Channel, and MIFTAH during her career. She was famous for her bold coverages of Arabian conflicts which had been putting her life at risk.
