Archie Battersbee is a 12-year-old boy who is currently brain dead after being found hanging in an accident at home. Archie was found unresponsive at home in Southend, Essex by his mother in his bedroom on May 7, 2022.

He was discovered with a cord hanging under his chin, which was described as a “freak accident” by his mom Ms.Dance since he is a gymnast.

He was rushed to the Southend University Hospital and later transferred to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel and has not gained consciousness since then after being declared brain dead by doctors. Doctors have proposed to perform a procedure to check the status of his brain cells but his parents have raised their concerns about it fearing the procedure might end his life.

There have been court orders to the family as doctors had reported the case to a court to test if he was brain dead.

The family of the boy is objecting to the idea of turning off the life support for their son as doctors are declaring him brain dead and inability to recover insisting that “it’s too soon to turn it off”.
