Lionel Richie’s mother is known to be Alberta Richie. Alberta, when alive was a teacher by profession. She was born on January 27, 1917, in Tuskegee, Macon County in Alabama in the United States of America and died at the age of 83 on January 15, 2001, in her birth town in Alabama.
Alberta’s son, Lionel Richie was a student at Joliet Township High School, East Campus in Joliet, Illinois. Lionel also attended Tuskegee Institute where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics in the 1960s.
Whiles in Tuskegee, he formed a succession of R&B groups. In 1968, he became part of the Commodores where he became a singer and saxophonist. The Commodores signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records in 1968 for one record before moving on to Motown Records.
Lionel is currently a member of Kappa Kappa Psi and an active life member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
