In contemporary American baseball history, the 1988 Baltimore Orioles experienced the poorest start to a season. Only five seasons after winning the World Series, the Orioles placed seventh in the American League East, with a record of 54 wins and 107 losses.
The 0–21 start to the season, which ran from April 4th to April 28th, is the season’s highlight. After a 0–6 start, manager Cal Ripken, Sr. was fired for incompetence and replaced by Hall of Famer Frank Robinson. On April 29, the Orioles defeated the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park in their first game of the season.
